Jets rookie RB Breece Hall out for season with torn ACL

The worst fears of the New York Jets and their fans were realized on the first day of the midweek.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero (h/t Nick Shook) reported Monday that Jets star rookie running back Breece Hall will miss the rest of the season after an MRI confirmed he suffered a torn ACL during Sunday's 16-9 win at the Denver Broncos.

The update is hardly surprising, as Jets head coach Robert Saleh admitted shortly after Sunday's contest that the initial diagnosis regarding Hall's setback was "not good." ESPN's Adam Schefter and Rich Cimini noted Hall is also dealing with a minor meniscus injury.

Hall torched the Broncos for a 62-yard touchdown in the first quarter of Sunday's victory:

However, the 21-year-old was hurt in the game's second quarter:

Per ESPN stats, the first-year pro began Monday eighth in the entire league with 463 rushing yards tallied across 80 attempts (5.8 yards per carry). He scored four touchdowns on the ground and also contributed 19 receptions for 218 yards and an additional touchdown.

Second-year pro Michael Carter is on track to go atop the depth chart in Hall's absence. Carter has 66 carries for 228 yards and two scores.

Cimini suggested earlier in the day the Jets could go shopping for a ball carrier before the NFL trade deadline on Nov. 1:

The Jets host the division-rival New England Patriots this coming Sunday.
